Niyai (นิยาย) is Thai for fairy tale. From our perspective, our lives may seem ordinary, mundane even. But what about from the eyes of the less fortunate? The lives we lead are so often taken for granted. August 8th was the commencement of my senior year, when I made a promise to myself to live each day with no regrets about the previous one. I can tell you, however, that it’s not easy. So when Ashley suggested that I create a subdomain here, I figured I could use a blog to keep myself in line with my goals.
Directive : Live the fairy tale of a life I’ve neglected.
So here’s your peek into the life of an American-born Thai, raised in an American-Chinese society, who left 15 years of memories in California to start over in Bangkok, Thailand. Watch as she succumbs to procrastination, frets about her college application, stress about her IB exams, and rants about the people she’d rather not encounter. See the same world you’re from through the camera lens of a 17 year old girl, where memory is her most cherished faculty. Hear the lyrics she relates to, the melodies she finds comfort in. And feel the flickers of the different emotions she reacts to life with. Read the story she has written for you, and tell her if she’s headed in the right direction.
Tell her if this fairy tale will end with “happily ever after”.
